John Smith

The President and founder of New Strength, Coach John is a certified ISSA fitness coach and elite trainer with certifications in personal training, nutrition, and yoga. He is a 2nd degree black belt and level 5 instructor in Krav Maga, as well a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu purple belt. He also has coaching, instructor, and safety certifications through USA Gymnastics. His immediate continuing education goals include ISSA certifications as an exercise therapist, and corrective exercise specialist.

Coach John’s journey in adaptive fitness coaching began in early 2018 when he started a homeschool martial arts class for his daughter. A mother had come to an interest meeting and asked him if he would be willing to work with her son in private sessions. One special child led to two, two led to four, and four led to more. The first four students still train with Coach John, as do the majority of all that have come since. In April 2019 he decided to close a retail business to pursue teaching adaptive martial arts full time. Over the course of the next two years a vision began to form to offer more than just adaptive martial arts, a vision to offer as many fitness options as possible to as many individuals as possible. This vision has been becoming a reality. What started with one child and martial arts has turned into a full time adaptive personal training facility offering adaptive martial arts, weight training, functional fitness, yoga, gymnastics and more.

Aside from training students and continuing his own personal fitness and martial arts education and practice, Coach John is a husband to his wife of 20 years and father to their 3 daughters. He is active in the local church where he co-teaches an 11th grade boys group and plays electric and bass guitar on the worship team. His other interests are travel and outdoor sports.
